The sun is shining (sometimes), the coffee and croissants have been served (thank you Lidl), you're wearing your SPF (I'll be checking), and you're wondering how to accessorize yourself and your space! Well you've come to the right place, here are the top 5 trends for Summer 2024: The Cornish Edit!
Whether you're inspired by colour, the coast, or crafting, there's something that everyone can enjoy! What screams summer more than bright colours and bold prints, those trends aren't going anywhere but every year there's a new twist - let's get into it!
Colour check:
bold pink
powder blue
hazy lavender
bright yellow
Starting with the classics, 1. Bright and Bold Florals; look no further than two Newquay, Cornwall based queens.
The first artist to help us fulfil our floral summer dreams is Claire Paul Illustration with her various goodies, from cards and prints, to enamel pins and washi tape. My favourite has to be the tulip washi tape! Also perfect for summer journaling.
Next up is printmaker and illustrator Emma Reith, whose Jug of Flowers print will brighten any space. From Emma, 'My work primarily draws from the abundance of nature we are lucky enough to have here in the U.K, and I aim to create images that inspire people to get outside and learn more about the natural world around us.'

On that note we stick with Emma's work and head to our next trend, all things
2. Outside, Nature, and Wildlife.
Check out her Limited Edition Cornish Alphabet Print THE perfect print to take centre stage of any room (it's above my sofa!). All the fauna and flora seen in this print are native to Cornwall so it's extra special to see them intermingled together in this piece - imagine the time this took!
If you want to REALLY bring the outside in, why not also opt for some art from Real Pressed Seaweed Co. Andy and Gemma create gorgeous works of art made from actual pieces of seaweed pressed and preserved on the page ANND you can even make your own piece at one of their workshops! Not only are you bringing the outside in but you're adding a little bit of holiday to your home! Everyday can be a sunny day in Cornwall with the right décor!
My final idea for bringing the outside in, in the most beautiful and stylish way is with ceramics made using Wild Cornish Clay From Nyn Ceramics. Picture yourself drinking your morning coffee out of a gorgeous Coffee Cup that's not only handmade in Newquay but made using foraged wild clay!
The third trend is one of my favourites,
3. Form and Function. Yes I like to buy pretty items to hang on the wall or pop on a shelf but my favouriteee thing is when you get to use the beautiful things everyday such as this ceramic Keep Cup by E.Ceramics. These are the pieces that look great on the shelf, the counter, in you hand, and on the go! Not forgetting her infamous Matchstick Pots which are beautiful AND have a striker on the bottom, you guessed it, FORM & FUNCTION! (Yes I'm very lucky to know so many fab ceramists!)
This summer has, to a degree, seen a move away from fast fashion (woohoo!) and a step towards lovingly and well made unique pieces from small businesses, whether jewellery, clothing, or home décor, all of us small biz folk have noticed the shift and we love it (of course there's still a way to go). Mass produced items are being left to the wayside in favour of 4. The Classics, whether vintage or made by a small business. So let's be honest gold is never 'out' but right now it really is IN! Particularly simple and delicate pieces such as these 9ct Gold Ring Bands.
The other thing you'll want to get your hands out, just like the other cool kids, are pearls. Pearls are EVERYWHERE this summer, pearl necklaces, chokers, hair slides, earrings, and anything else the girlies can accessorize!
Playing on the classics we come to our last trend, 5. Notes of Nostalgia. Have you heard that chinoiserie and rococo style are back big time, with particular thanks to the Bridgeton influence and timeless blue and white style of chinoiserie. I truly think the maximalists have come full circle and become best friends with their minimalist loving counter parts and the result is the reinvention of rococo style. Overall simple and stylish looks with pockets of bright and fun pieces!
I know, I know, you want in... check out Cornish ceramicist Eloise Rose, that is if you're not already familiar! You'll soon realise your kitchen is actually wildly incomplete without a gorgeous fruit platter or grumpy turnip coaster (if you know you know!). There's only so many lovely folks I can mention in one post, if you can add any others or yourself then comment! :)
I hope this has inspired you to shop small for these summer trends and maybe get DIY-ing some yourself! Feeling inspired and fancy getting crafty? Here are some workshops and events for you to check out:
